Vacation Possibilities

Concord Waterfalls on Grenada are but one of the more spectacular views in the Windward Islands.

Island Descriptions

The islands we cruise during our journey run between Tortola in the British Virgin Islands 60 nautical miles east of Puerto Rico,  650 nautical miles through the island chain to Grenada.  We travel the Virgin Islands as well as both the Leeward Island group, those islands north and west of Martinique, and the Windward Island group from Martinique south. These islands include both young, steep and mountainous volcanic islands as well as older, eroded and limestone-capped islands recently (in geological terms) resurfaced from the deep. While some areas are volcanically active such as Montserrat and Kick Em Jenny just north of Grenada, most are not.

Our vacation cruises will take us along an arc that extends from Grenada in the south. some 650 nautical miles to Tortola,  980 nautical miles east-southeast of  Miami. Included in the island local sailing options are: The British Virgin Islands; St. Martin/Sint Maarten; Antigua; St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Inter-island cruises will include Sint Maarten to Antigua; Antigua to Martinique; Martinique to St. Vincent; St. Vincent to Grenada.

From a governmental standpoint, almost every island is a separate entity from others. Visitors must be cleared by customs and immigration both on entering and departing, both of which can usually be done together for a short, over night stay. Your captain will generally be able to undertake these chores and for this purpose will generally hold all passports during your stay on board.

Joseph Grand was really grand in his friendliness while we anchored for several days in our favorite spot in the Caribbean, Salt Whistle Bay at the northern end of Mayru Island in The Grenadines.

At anchor at sunset can be one of the most glorious times of the day.

The Crew

Your hosts will be Capt. Owen & Mary Jones.

The Fidelity: Small enough to be personable, large enough for comfort. She is a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2, slightly over 46 feet long with three cabins and a head for each. Both guest heads are private, accessible only from the staterooms. The third head is accessible both from the crew's quarters and the main salon.

Persons joining us for Island Vacations will have a chance to sail in the area around a single major island or island group of the Caribbean Leeward and Windward island chain: British Virgin Islands; Sint Maarten; The Grenadines.

Friends who choose to sail between the islands can select from several venues: Sint Maarten to Antigua; Antigua to Martinique; Martinique to St. Vincent; St. Vincent to Grenada.

Travel Guide: Each group reserving a chance to sail with Owen & Mary on their down-island travels will receive a copy of the cruising guide by Chris Doyle appropriate to their week's vacation, either for the Leeward Islands for St. Martin to Dominica or the Windward Islands for cruising from Martinique to Grenada or by Nancy & Simon Scott for the Virgin Islands.
